Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Awlā (أَوْلَى): The closest, the most deserving, or the most entitled.
  • Ibrāhīm (إِبْرَاهِيمَ): Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him — the revered patriarch of monotheism.
  • Ittaba‘ūhu (اتَّبَعُوهُ): Those who followed him — i.e., adhered to his message and way of life.
  • Hādhā al-Nabiyy (هَـٰذَا النَّبِيُّ): "This Prophet" — referring to Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.
  • Walī (وَلِيّ): Protector, ally, guardian, and supporter.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this noble verse, Allah settles a matter of great importance: Who truly has the right to claim connection to Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him? The People of the Book — both Jews and Christians — each claimed that Abraham was exclusively theirs, following their own religion. Allah refutes this claim decisively.

The verse declares that the people most deserving of Abraham are not those who merely claim lineage or associate him with their later distortions. Rather, they are:

  1. Those who followed him in his own time — the believers who accepted his call to pure monotheism and submitted to Allah alone.
  2. This Prophet (Muhammad, peace be upon him) — because he revived and perfected the very same message that Abraham brought: complete submission to Allah, free from all forms of shirk (associating partners with Allah).
  3. Those who believe in Muhammad — the Muslim nation, for they follow the final and complete version of the religion that Abraham originally preached.

Thus, the true heirs of Abraham are not those who claim him by blood or by false association, but those who embody his legacy of pure faith and submission. The verse concludes with a beautiful reassurance: "And Allah is the Protector of the believers." This means that Allah defends, supports, and guards those who truly believe in Him and follow His messengers — and this protection is the greatest honor one can attain.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, this verse carries a profound and heartwarming message. It teaches us that true nobility is not measured by ancestry, ethnicity, or empty claims — but by faith and righteous action. The honor of being connected to the great Prophet Abraham is open to every person, in every time, who sincerely follows the path of monotheism and submission to Allah. And what a beautiful path it is! It is the path that leads to Allah's protection and care in this life and the next. So, let us strive to be among those true followers — not just by name, but by living the message of Abraham and Muhammad, peace be upon them: worshipping Allah alone, with sincerity, love, and complete devotion. This is the key to Allah's guardianship, and there is no greater success than that.

📜 Verse 66-70 — Aal-Imran

Here you are - those who have argued about that of which you have [some] knowledge, but why do you argue about that of which you have no knowledge? And Allah knows, while you know not.
Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was one inclining toward truth, a Muslim [submitting to Allah]. And he was not of the polytheists.
Indeed, the most worthy of Abraham among the people are those who followed him [in submission to Allah] and this prophet, and those who believe [in his message]. And Allah is the ally of the believers.
A faction of the people of the Scripture wish they could mislead you. But they do not mislead except themselves, and they perceive [it] not.
O People of the Scripture, why do you disbelieve in the verses of Allah while you witness [to their truth]?
