Tafsir (Explanation):
A group among the People of the Book—specifically the Jewish scholars and rabbis of that time—harbored a deep, heartfelt wish to turn you, O believers, away from the path of Islam and the guidance Allah has granted you. They plotted and schemed, hoping to see you abandon your faith and slip into misguidance.
Yet, in their very attempt to mislead you, they only succeed in misleading themselves. How so? Because their persistent efforts to corrupt the truth and their stubborn rejection of the clear signs only deepen their own deviation and increase their distance from Allah’s mercy. Their evil intentions rebound upon them, and their schemes bring them nothing but loss.
And the most astonishing part is that they do not even realize this. They are blind to the fact that their plots are futile and that the harm of their actions falls back upon their own souls. They think they are clever, but in truth, they are the losers—while the believers remain firm upon the truth, protected by Allah.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear believer, this verse carries a timeless lesson of reassurance and hope. No matter how much the enemies of truth conspire against Islam, their plans can never harm the sincere believers, for Allah is the Protector of His religion and His righteous servants. Their efforts are like a spider’s web—fragile and destined to collapse.
Take comfort in this: the attempts of those who wish to pull you away from your faith—whether through doubt, temptation, or false arguments—will always fail. Their misguidance only consumes them, while you remain anchored in the light of Allah’s guidance.
So hold fast to your faith with confidence, and never fear the plots of the misguided. For Allah has promised to safeguard His believers, and the truth will always prevail over falsehood. Let this verse strengthen your heart and deepen your trust in Allah, for He is the Best of Protectors and the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.
