Tafsir (Explanation):
O believer, Allah commands you to give your near relatives their due right — whether it be kindness, financial support, maintaining family ties, or any act of goodness and charity that strengthens the bond of kinship. This is not merely a recommendation but a sacred duty that purifies the soul and builds a compassionate society.
Alongside your relatives, extend your hand to the poor and needy who struggle to meet their basic needs, and to the wayfarer — the traveler who finds himself far from home, stranded without means. These three categories are mentioned together because they represent the most vulnerable members of society who depend on the generosity of others.
This giving — whether from obligatory charity (zakāh) or voluntary donations — is far better and more beneficial for those who sincerely seek the Face of Allah, desiring only His pleasure and reward, not worldly recognition or praise. When your intention is pure and your giving is for Allah alone, the smallest act of kindness becomes immense in value.
And those who consistently fulfill these rights and engage in such noble deeds — they are the truly successful ones. They are the ones who will attain Allah's abundant reward, enter His Paradise, and be saved from His punishment. Their success is not measured by worldly gains but by the eternal bliss that awaits them in the Hereafter.
Dear believer, let this verse inspire you to open your heart and your hand. Every relative you support, every needy person you help, every stranded traveler you assist — these are investments in your eternal future. Allah does not waste the reward of those who do good. So race towards these righteous deeds with sincerity, and you will be among the successful ones who will rejoice in the mercy of their Lord on the Day when neither wealth nor children will avail, but only a pure heart that sought His Face.
