Do you not see that Allah causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term, and that Allah, with whatever you do, is Acquainted?

Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Phrases:

  • يُولِجُ (yūlij): To insert, to cause to enter, or to merge one thing into another. Here, it means the gradual increase and decrease of day and night.
  • وَسَخَّرَ (sakhkhara): To subject, to make subservient, or to place something at the service of another. It implies a perfect and precise system.
  • أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى (ajalin musammā): A specified, fixed, and appointed term or end.
  • خَبِيرٌ (khabīr): All-Aware, All-Knowing, possessing complete and perfect knowledge of the innermost details of all things.

The Tafsir (Explanation):

Have you not observed, with the eye of your heart and mind, the magnificent and precise system that Allah has established in this universe? He causes the night to merge into the day, making the day longer by taking from the night, and He causes the day to merge into the night, making the night longer by taking from the day. This continuous, seamless transition is a sign of His absolute power and wisdom, a process that never fails and never tires.

And He has subjected the sun and the moon for you, placing them at your service. Each one of them runs its course in its own orbit, with perfect precision, until an appointed term that only He knows. This term could be the end of the world, or the end of their own cycle, but it is a fixed and known limit in the knowledge of Allah. They do not deviate, nor do they slow down, but follow the command of their Lord.

And, most importantly, know that Allah is *Khabīr* — fully aware and All-Knowing of everything you do. Not a single action, word, or even a hidden thought in your heart escapes His knowledge. He sees the good and the bad, the apparent and the hidden, and He will hold you to account for all of it.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

This verse is a profound invitation to open our eyes and reflect on the world around us. The alternation of day and night is not a random accident; it is a divine mercy that allows us to work and rest, to strive and to worship. The sun and the moon are not our masters, but our servants, subjugated by the will of the Most Merciful. If you truly ponder this, your heart will fill with awe and gratitude for the Creator who has provided all of this for you.

And when you realize that He is *Khabīr* — that He knows your every intention and deed — it should fill you with a sense of accountability and a beautiful desire to live a life that pleases Him. Let this knowledge be your constant companion. Let it motivate you to perform good deeds, to purify your heart, and to turn to Him in repentance. For the One who manages the sun and the moon with such perfection is certainly capable of managing your affairs, and He is the best of protectors. So, place your trust in Him, and strive to be among those who are ever mindful of His watchful eye.

📜 Verse 27-31 — Luqman

And if whatever trees upon the earth were pens and the sea [was ink], replenished thereafter by seven [more] seas, the words of Allah would not be exhausted. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.
Your creation and your resurrection will not be but as that of a single soul. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Seeing.
Do you not see that Allah causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term, and that Allah, with whatever you do, is Acquainted?
That is because Allah is the Truth, and that what they call upon other than Him is falsehood, and because Allah is the Most High, the Grand.
Do you not see that ships sail through the sea by the favor of Allah that He may show you of His signs? Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.
