Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Fa-sma‘ūn" (فاسمعون): Listen to me, hear my words attentively, and accept what I say.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This is the powerful declaration of a believing man from the remote part of the city, who had been secretly guiding his people toward the truth. After patiently calling them to worship Allah alone and warning them against the false gods they worshipped, he now makes a bold, public confession of his faith. He says: "Indeed, I have believed in your Lord" — meaning the Lord who created you, sustains you, and to whom you will all return. He does not say "my Lord" only, but "your Lord" to emphasize that this faith is not exclusive to him; it is the truth that applies to all of them.
Then he says: "So listen to me" — meaning, hear my words and accept my testimony. He is not asking them to merely hear with their ears, but to open their hearts to the truth he is conveying. This is the call of a sincere believer who has nothing to gain from them, only their salvation. He is willing to risk everything — even his life — to deliver this message.
The response of his people was swift and brutal: they stoned him and killed him. But Allah honored him, saying he entered Paradise. This man, whose name is not even mentioned in the Qur'an, became an eternal symbol of courage, sincerity, and unwavering faith. He stands as proof that one person, armed with truth and trust in Allah, can be greater than an entire society of falsehood.
A Da‘wah Reflection:
Dear reader, look at this man's beautiful example. He did not wait for the perfect conditions or the support of the masses. He spoke the truth clearly, declared his faith openly, and accepted the consequences with patience. This is the essence of true faith: to believe in Allah and to say so, even when the world is against you. Allah does not require you to change everyone around you; He only requires you to be truthful and steadfast. And when you stand for the truth, Allah stands with you — in this life with honor, and in the Hereafter with Paradise. So ask yourself: are you ready to declare your faith with the same courage? Are you ready to say, "I have believed in my Lord, so listen to me"? The reward is far greater than any sacrifice you could ever make.
