Explanation of the Verse:
Allah, the Most Merciful and All-Powerful, draws our attention to a profound sign of His might and wisdom that lies within every one of us—the cycle of human life. He says: "And whoever We grant a long life, We reverse him in creation." This means that when a person is blessed with many years and reaches old age, Allah returns him to a state of weakness similar to that of his infancy. After a lifetime of strength, knowledge, and vigor, the elderly person becomes frail in body and mind—just as a child is weak and dependent. His hair turns white, his back bends, his hearing and sight weaken, and his memory fades. He who was once strong and capable becomes in need of others' care, just as he was at the beginning of his life.
This is not a punishment, but rather a natural sign from Allah, the Wise, to remind humanity of the reality of this world—that it is a transient abode, not a place of permanent residence. The One who is able to take a person from the peak of strength and knowledge back to the weakness of childhood is certainly able to bring the dead back to life on the Day of Resurrection. If people would only reflect with their minds, they would realize that the One who created them and controls their stages of life cannot be incapable of recreating them after death.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
O dear reader, pause and look at yourself and those around you. Have you ever seen an elderly person who was once a strong youth, full of energy and ambition? How time has changed him! This transformation is not random—it is a divine lesson written on our very bodies. Allah is telling us: "The One who reversed your strength into weakness can also reverse your death into life." So why do we neglect this truth? Why do we live as if this world will last forever?
This verse is an invitation to open our hearts and minds. The same Allah who created you from nothing, who gave you strength and intellect, and who will one day return you to weakness—He is the One who will resurrect you after death to account for your deeds. Let this realization bring you closer to Him, fill your heart with humility, and motivate you to prepare for the eternal life to come. Do not let your intellect be blinded by the distractions of this world. Use it to see the signs of your Lord, believe in His promise, and strive for His pleasure. Indeed, the wise person is the one who learns from every sign and turns to his Creator before the time of return arrives.
