Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Ilyās (إِلْيَاسَ): He is Prophet Elijah (peace be upon him), one of the prophets sent to the Children of Israel. His name is mentioned here as a noble servant of Allah.
- La-min al-mursalīn (لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ): "Indeed, among the messengers" — meaning he is one of those chosen by Allah to deliver His message to humanity.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) affirms the noble status of His servant and Prophet Ilyās (Elijah, peace be upon him), declaring that he was indeed one of the messengers sent by Allah to guide mankind. This is a great honor and a testament to his high rank among the prophets.
Prophet Ilyās was sent to the Children of Israel, a people who had strayed from the worship of Allah alone. He called them to fear Allah, to worship Him exclusively, and to abandon their idolatrous practices. He addressed them with wisdom and clarity, asking them how they could worship a carved idol while turning away from the worship of Allah — the Best of creators, the One who created them and their forefathers before them. His message was one of pure monotheism (Tawḥīd), reminding them of their Lord’s blessings and their duty to submit to Him alone.
This verse serves as a powerful reminder that Allah’s guidance has always been sent through chosen messengers throughout history, and that the path of truth — worshiping Allah alone — has never changed. It also highlights the continuity of the prophetic mission: from Adam to Noah, from Abraham to Moses, and from Ilyās to the final Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him and all the prophets).
Da‘wah Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on the honor bestowed upon Prophet Ilyās — he was chosen by Allah, the Lord of the worlds, to carry a message of mercy and guidance. This reminds us that Allah does not leave humanity without direction; He sends messengers to illuminate the path of righteousness. The story of Ilyās teaches us the importance of standing firm for the truth, even when surrounded by a people who have turned away from their Creator.
If you seek true success and peace in this life and the Hereafter, know that the message of all the prophets — including Ilyās — is the same: worship Allah alone, and follow His guidance. This is the key to eternal happiness. Embrace it with an open heart, and you will find a light that never fades. May Allah guide us all to the straight path, and may He make us among those who love and follow His messengers.
