Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- ʿibād (عِبَاد): servants or slaves of Allah, referring to those who worship Him alone and submit to His will.
- al-mukhlaṣīn (الْمُخْلَصِينَ): those who have been purified and chosen by Allah exclusively for His worship and obedience — sincere believers whom Allah has protected from the corruption of sin and disbelief.
Explanation of the Verse:
After recounting the fate of the disbelieving nations who were destroyed for their arrogance and rejection of the truth, Allah makes an exception in this verse: "Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones." These are the believers whom Allah has singled out for His mercy and grace, purifying their hearts and deeds for His sake alone. They are the ones who sincerely worship Him, uphold His commands, and avoid His prohibitions — and because of their sincerity and devotion, they are saved from the punishment that befell the disbelievers. This exception refers to all the prophets and their true followers throughout history, including the people of Prophet Nūḥ (Noah) who believed in him and were saved in the ark, as well as every generation of monotheists who remained steadfast upon the truth. The verse also serves as a direct address to the Quraysh and all who hear this message: the stories of past nations are not mere legends, but lessons — and the path to salvation remains open for those who sincerely turn to Allah, just as it was for the purified servants before them.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, this verse carries a profound and hopeful message: Allah’s mercy is not limited to past nations — it extends to every sincere heart that seeks Him. The door of salvation is open, and the key is *ikhlāṣ* (sincerity). When you purify your intention for Allah alone, when you worship Him with a heart free from show and hypocrisy, you enter the ranks of those whom Allah protects and saves. The Qur’an is not just a book of stories; it is a living guide that calls you today to be among the *mukhlaṣīn* — those who are truly devoted to their Lord. Let the fate of the disbelievers be a warning, and let the salvation of the purified servants be your inspiration. Turn to Allah now, before it is too late, and ask Him to make you among His sincere and purified servants. Indeed, He is the Most Merciful, the Most Loving — and He never turns away a repentant heart.
