Word Meanings:
- Nādānā (نَادَانَا): He called upon Us, supplicated and invoked Us.
- Falaniʿma (فَلَنِعْمَ): "How excellent" or "how perfect" — an expression of praise and commendation.
- Al-Mujībūn (الْمُجِيبُونَ): The Responders, those who answer calls and prayers.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah the Exalted reminds us of His servant and Messenger, Prophet Nūḥ (Noah), peace be upon him. When his people persisted in their denial and mockery, and after centuries of patient preaching, Nūḥ turned to his Lord in sincere supplication, calling upon Him for help and victory against those who rejected the truth. He invoked Allah against his people, seeking divine justice and deliverance.
Allah responded to this call in the most perfect and complete manner. The verse praises Allah Himself as the Best of Responders — He answered Nūḥ's prayer swiftly and decisively. His response was not delayed nor inadequate; rather, it was an answer that combined mercy for the believers and justice for the wrongdoers. Allah destroyed the disbelieving people with the great flood, saved Nūḥ and those who believed with him, and made the believers the inheritors of the earth.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer: Allah is always near, always listening, and always capable of answering the supplications of His servants. When you call upon Him with sincerity and trust, He responds in ways that are perfectly suited to your situation — sometimes with what you asked for, sometimes with something better, and sometimes by removing a greater harm. The story of Nūḥ teaches us that no matter how long the trial lasts or how powerful the opposition seems, Allah's help is certain for those who remain patient and faithful.
Dear believer, let this verse fill your heart with hope and strengthen your connection with your Lord. The same Allah who answered Nūḥ's call after centuries of hardship is the One who hears your whispers in the depths of the night. He is Al-Mujīb — the Ever-Responding. So never underestimate the power of your duʿā', and never lose hope in Allah's mercy and justice. Call upon Him with certainty, for He has promised: "Call upon Me; I will respond to you" (Ghāfir 40:60). And His promise is true, just as His response to Nūḥ was true and perfect.
