Word Meanings:

  • Naba'ahu (نَبَأَهُ): Its news, tidings, or the truth of its message.
  • Ba'da heen (بَعْدَ حِينٍ): After a while, a period of time, or at a later time.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse is a direct and powerful address to the disbelievers of Makkah, and by extension, to all who reject the truth of the Qur'an. Allah (Exalted be He) declares: "And you will surely come to know its news after a while." The "news" here refers to the truth of the Qur'an and the fulfillment of the warnings and promises it contains.

The verse carries a dual meaning, both of which are certain and inevitable:

First, the disbelievers would witness the triumph of Islam in this very world. They would see the religion of truth prevail, people entering into it in multitudes, and the word of Allah being raised high. This was fulfilled in their own lifetime when Makkah was conquered, and the Arabian Peninsula embraced Islam. The very people who had denied and mocked the Qur'an saw with their own eyes the truth of what it had promised.

Second, and more profoundly, every soul will come to know the truth of the Qur'an at the moment of death and on the Day of Resurrection. When the veil is lifted, and the reality of the Hereafter becomes manifest, every disbeliever will realize with absolute certainty that the Qur'an was indeed the word of Allah, and that every warning it contained — of punishment, accountability, and the eternal consequences of one's deeds — was true. At that moment, however, knowledge will be of no avail, for the time of action will have passed.

This verse is a gentle yet firm reminder that truth is not hidden forever. The Qur'an is not a book of empty promises or idle threats; it is the living word of the Creator, and its news will always come to pass. For the believer, this is a source of immense comfort and reassurance — that Allah's promise is true, and that patience in this world will be rewarded. For the one who delays, it is a loving call to reflect before the "after a while" arrives, for no one knows when their time will come.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse invites you to open your heart to the Qur'an before the news arrives in a way that leaves no room for doubt. The Qur'an is not merely a book to be recited; it is a guide, a mercy, and a light. Its promises are as real as the sun that rises each morning. Do not wait until the moment when belief becomes a source of regret rather than salvation. Embrace the truth now, while the door of repentance is open, and let the Qur'an be your companion in this life and your intercessor in the next. For indeed, the news of its truth will come — and the wise are those who prepare for it before it arrives.
