Surah Ghafir — Verse 51

Word Meanings:

• Al-Ash-had (الأَشْهَاد): The witnesses; plural of *shāhid* (شاهد). These are the guardian angels, the prophets, and the believers who will stand as witnesses on the Day of Resurrection.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Allah, the Most High, declares with absolute certainty and emphasis: "Indeed, We will surely support Our messengers and those who believe." This is a divine promise that is never broken. In the life of this world, Allah grants victory to His messengers and their followers by establishing their proof, strengthening their arguments, and aiding them against their enemies—whether through visible triumph, the preservation of their message, or the ultimate downfall of those who opposed them. This support may come in various forms: sometimes through clear victory in battle, sometimes through the spread of their call and the hearts that embrace it, and sometimes through the humiliation of their adversaries.

Then Allah adds: "And on the Day when the witnesses will stand" — that is, the Day of Judgment, when the guardian angels, the prophets, and the believers will rise to testify. The angels will bear witness that the messengers truly delivered their Lord's messages, the prophets will testify against their nations who denied them, and the believers will confirm the truth of what the messengers brought. On that Day, Allah's support for His messengers and believers reaches its ultimate fulfillment: the believers are admitted into Paradise, while their opponents are cast into the Fire, all in the presence of witnesses who confirm the justice of that decree.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear believer, let this verse fill your heart with tranquility and hope. Allah has promised you victory — not necessarily in the form you expect, but in the form that is best for you. Sometimes victory is immediate and visible; sometimes it comes through the strength of your conviction, the preservation of your faith, and the legacy you leave behind. And if you do not see it in this world, then know with certainty that the greatest victory awaits you on the Day when all witnesses stand — the day when your patience, your faith, and your struggles will be vindicated before all of creation. So hold firm to your Lord's promise, for He never fails His word. Be among those who believe, and rest assured that His support is with you now and forever.
