Dis: «Voyez-vous? Si ceci (le Coran) émane d'Allah et qu'ensuite vous le reniez; qui se trouvera plus égaré que celui qui s'éloigne dans la dissidence?»
"Ar'aytum" (أَرَأَيْتُمْ): "Tell me" or "Inform me" — a rhetorical device used to draw the listener's attention and provoke thought.
"Shiqāq" (شِقَاق): Opposition, discord, or stubborn defiance against the truth; it implies being on the opposite side of what is right.
"Ba'īd" (بَعِيد): Far-reaching, extreme, or profound — indicating that the deviation from truth is not minor but deep and severe.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Prophet, say to these people who reject the truth: "Tell me — if this Qur'an is indeed from Allah, as it truly is, and then you disbelieve in it and deny it out of arrogance and stubbornness, then who could be more astray than you?" The question is not merely rhetorical; it forces them to confront the reality of their situation. If the Qur'an is the word of Allah — and its miraculous nature, profound wisdom, and undeniable truth testify to that — then rejecting it places a person in the most extreme form of misguidance. There is no one more lost than one who sees the clear truth, recognizes its evidence, and still turns away in defiance. Such a person is not merely mistaken; they are in a state of deep opposition to Allah, having cut themselves off from His guidance. Their own souls are the victims, for by rejecting the truth, they bring destruction upon themselves. The verse is a powerful call to self-reflection: if you acknowledge that this could be from Allah, then what is your excuse for rejecting it? And if you are certain it is not from Him, then bring proof — but you cannot. The door of repentance remains open, and the mercy of Allah is vast for those who return to Him before it is too late. This verse is a reminder that the greatest loss is not the absence of truth, but the rejection of it when it is presented clearly. It invites every soul to pause, reflect, and ask: "What if this is truly from my Lord?" — for such reflection is the beginning of guidance and the key to salvation.
And if We let him taste mercy from Us after an adversity which has touched him, he will surely say, "This is [due] to me, and I do not think the Hour will occur; and [even] if I should be returned to my Lord, indeed, for me there will be with Him the best." But We will surely inform those who disbelieved about what they did, and We will surely make them taste a massive punishment.
We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. But is it not sufficient concerning your Lord that He is, over all things, a Witness?
