Word Meanings:

  • "Ḥaqqa" (حَقَّ): Became due, obligatory, or inevitable.
  • "Al-Qawl" (الْقَوْلُ): The Word — referring to the divine decree of punishment.
  • "Khalat" (خَلَتْ): Passed away, went before, or preceded.
  • "Khāsirīn" (خَاسِرِينَ): Losers — those who have lost themselves, their families, and their eternal well-being.

Explanation of the Verse:

These are the ones upon whom the Word of punishment from Allah has become due and inevitable. They are joined with the ranks of nations that passed away before them — both from the jinn and humankind — who similarly rejected the truth and persisted in disbelief. The decree of destruction and divine wrath has encompassed them just as it encompassed those earlier communities who chose falsehood over guidance.

Indeed, they were the true losers. They lost themselves by bartering the light of guidance for the darkness of misguidance, and they traded the everlasting bliss of Paradise for the torment of the Fire. They lost their families too, for on the Day of Resurrection, no relative or companion will be able to save them from the punishment they earned. Their loss is absolute and complete — a loss of this world and the Hereafter.

This verse serves as a profound reminder that Allah's decree is just and His promise is true. No one who persists in rejecting the truth will escape the consequences of their choices. Yet, this verse also carries a hidden mercy: it comes as a warning *before* the punishment falls, giving every soul the opportunity to turn back, repent, and seek Allah's forgiveness before it is too late.

Dear reader, let this verse awaken your heart. The door of repentance remains open, and Allah's mercy is vast. Do not let yourself be counted among the losers when you can be among the winners — those who respond to their Lord, follow His guidance, and secure for themselves a place in His eternal Paradise. The choice is yours, and the time is now.

📜 Verse 16-20 — Al-Ahqaf

Those are the ones from whom We will accept the best of what they did and overlook their misdeeds, [their being] among the companions of Paradise. [That is] the promise of truth which they had been promised.
But one who says to his parents, "Uff to you; do you promise me that I will be brought forth [from the earth] when generations before me have already passed on [into oblivion]?" while they call to Allah for help [and to their son], "Woe to you! Believe! Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth." But he says, "This is not but legends of the former people" -
Those are the ones upon whom the word has come into effect, [who will be] among nations which had passed on before them of jinn and men. Indeed, they [all] were losers.
And for all there are degrees [of reward and punishment] for what they have done, and [it is] so that He may fully compensate them for their deeds, and they will not be wronged.
And the Day those who disbelieved are exposed to the Fire [it will be said], "You exhausted your pleasures during your worldly life and enjoyed them, so this Day you will be awarded the punishment of [extreme] humiliation because you were arrogant upon the earth without right and because you were defiantly disobedient."
