Word Meanings:

  • Tanzīl (تَنزِيلُ): The sending down or revelation of something from above, in stages.
  • Al-Kitāb (الْكِتَابِ): The Book — referring to the Qur’an, the preserved scripture of Allah.
  • Al-ʿAzīz (الْعَزِيزِ): The Almighty, the All-Powerful, the One who prevails over all things and cannot be overcome.
  • Al-Ḥakīm (الْحَكِيمِ): The All-Wise, the One who is perfect in His wisdom in all that He creates, decrees, and commands.

Explanation of the Verse:

This noble verse establishes the divine origin of the Qur’an with absolute clarity. It declares that this Book is a revelation sent down from Allah — the Almighty whose power knows no limits and whom no force in the heavens or the earth can ever defeat or resist. He is the One whose wisdom permeates every aspect of His creation, His decree, and His legislation.

The verse beautifully combines two of Allah’s most profound attributes: His might (ʿIzzah) and His wisdom (Ḥikmah). His might ensures that nothing can obstruct His will or alter His words, while His wisdom guarantees that everything He reveals is perfectly suited to the needs of His servants — containing guidance that is true, just, and beneficial for all of humanity in every time and place.

This opening statement serves as a powerful reminder that the Qur’an is not the product of human intellect or imagination, nor is it a book of mythology or poetry. Rather, it is the very speech of the Creator, sent down with purpose and precision. When a believer reflects on this, their heart fills with certainty and reverence, knowing that every verse they recite carries the weight of divine authority and the depth of divine wisdom.

A Daʿwah Reflection:

Dear reader, ponder this profound truth: the Book you hold in your hands — or hear recited in your ears — is not from any human author. It is a direct communication from the Lord of the worlds, the Almighty who created you, sustains you, and knows what is best for you. His might means that no power on earth can change a single letter of it, and His wisdom means that every command, every prohibition, and every story within it serves a purpose for your ultimate happiness in this life and the next.

If you truly grasp this, your relationship with the Qur’an will transform. You will no longer read it as mere words, but as a personal message from your Creator — a message of mercy, guidance, and hope. Open your heart to it, and you will find that it speaks directly to your soul, lighting your path through the darkness of this world and leading you to the eternal bliss of the Hereafter. This is the gift of Allah to you — will you not receive it with gratitude and love?

📜 Verse 1-4 — Al-Ahqaf

1حم
Ha, Meem.
2تَنزِيلُ الْكِتَابِ مِنَ اللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَكِيمِ
The revelation of the Book is from Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
We did not create the heavens and earth and what is between them except in truth and [for] a specified term. But those who disbelieve, from that of which they are warned, are turning away.
Say, [O Muhammad], "Have you considered that which you invoke besides Allah? Show me what they have created of the earth; or did they have partnership in [creation of] the heavens? Bring me a scripture [revealed] before this or a [remaining] trace of knowledge, if you should be truthful."
