Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Phrases:
- Bil-Haqq (بِالْحَقِّ): With truth, with absolute wisdom and justice, not in vain or as a plaything.
- Ajalin Musammā (أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى): A specified, appointed term — a fixed time known only to Allah, which marks the end of this world and the arrival of the Day of Judgment.
- Unzirū (أُنذِرُوا): They were warned — referring to the warnings given in the Qur'an about accountability, resurrection, and the consequences of disbelief.
- Muʿriḍūn (مُعْرِضُونَ): Turning away — meaning they deliberately ignore, neglect, and pay no heed to the warning.
The Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah, the All-Wise, declares that He did not create the heavens, the earth, and everything between them — the galaxies, the stars, the oceans, the mountains, the living creatures, and all that exists — without purpose or as a mere amusement. Rather, He created all of this with truth, meaning that every single thing in existence carries profound wisdom and serves a meaningful purpose. The creation itself is a magnificent sign pointing to the greatness, power, and oneness of its Creator. It was not created in vain, nor was it created for play; rather, it was created so that humanity might reflect upon the majesty of Allah, come to know Him, worship Him alone without partners, and establish justice and righteousness upon the earth. The universe, in all its harmony and perfection, is a living testimony that there is a Creator who is All-Powerful and All-Wise.
Furthermore, Allah created all of this for an appointed term — a fixed and known time. This world is not eternal; it has a beginning and an end. The end of this world is the Day of Judgment, when Allah will resurrect all of creation and hold every soul accountable for its deeds. This appointed term is a reminder that life here is temporary, and that the true, everlasting life is in the Hereafter. So the creation of the heavens and the earth is not only a sign of Allah's power but also a proof of His ability to bring the dead back to life, for the One who created this vast universe from nothing is certainly able to recreate it and resurrect all of humanity.
Yet, despite all these clear signs and profound truths, those who disbelieve turn away from what they have been warned about. The Qur'an, which is the ultimate warning and reminder, has been revealed to them, but they pay no attention to it. They do not reflect upon its verses, nor do they take heed of its admonitions. They are like people who walk past a blazing fire that could burn them, yet they simply turn their faces away, ignoring the danger. They are so engrossed in their worldly desires and their rejection of the truth that they fail to see the signs of Allah all around them — signs that are calling them to faith, to righteousness, and to salvation.
This is a gentle yet powerful call to every human being: open your eyes, reflect upon the creation around you, and realize that you were not created in vain. You have a purpose, and that purpose is to know your Lord, worship Him, and prepare for the day when you will stand before Him. Do not be among those who turn away from the warning, for the warning is a mercy from Allah — a light that guides you out of darkness and into the path of everlasting success. The Qur'an is not a burden; it is a gift. It is the rope of Allah that, if you hold onto it, will never let you fall. So do not let your heart be heedless, and do not let your soul be among the negligent. Respond to the call of your Creator, for He is the Most Merciful, the Most Loving, and He wants nothing but good for you — in this life and in the life to come.
