Surah Qaf — Verse 12

Tafsir (Explanation):

In this verse, Allah (Exalted be He) consoles His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by reminding him that he is not the first messenger to face denial. Before the disbelievers of Quraysh, many nations rejected their prophets with even greater stubbornness and hostility.

The people of Noah (peace be upon him) — despite his 950 years of patient calling — persisted in disbelief until the flood drowned them all. Then came the "Companions of the Well" (Aṣḥāb al-Rass), a community that lived around a blessed water source, yet they denied their messenger and were destroyed for their ingratitude. And then Thamud, the mighty people of Salih, who carved their homes into mountains but rejected the clear signs, leading to their annihilation by a single terrible blast.

Allah mentions these nations to show that disbelief is an ancient disease, and that the punishment for it is certain. But He also reveals a deeper truth: just as these nations were destroyed for their denial, the believers who remained steadfast were saved. The pattern of history is clear — truth prevails, falsehood perishes.

This verse carries a profound lesson for every generation: do not be deceived by the apparent strength or numbers of those who reject the truth. The well of al-Rass was a source of life, yet it became a source of destruction. The mountains of Thamud were solid, yet they could not protect their owners. Only faith in Allah and following His messengers provide true security.
