Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Rizqan (رِزْقًا): Provision or sustenance — that which Allah provides for His creation to benefit from.
- Baladatan maytan (بَلْدَةً مَيْتًا): A dead land — a barren, arid land with no vegetation or life.
- Al-Khurūj (الْخُرُوجُ): The coming forth — the resurrection and emergence from the graves on the Day of Judgment.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this profound verse, Allah draws our attention to His boundless mercy and power. He tells us that He causes the rain to fall and the earth to bring forth vegetation — all as a provision (rizq) for His servants. This is not merely for survival, but a manifestation of His care: grains, fruits, and plants that sustain humans, animals, and all living beings, each according to their needs. The rain revives a land that was lifeless and barren — a land that had dried up, cracked, and lost all hope of growth. Then, with a single shower of mercy, it springs back to life, bursting with greenery and abundance.
Then comes the powerful lesson: "Thus will be the coming forth." The same Divine Power that revives a dead earth with water is the very Power that will revive dead bodies from their graves on the Day of Resurrection. If you can witness the earth's revival after its death — season after season, year after year — then how can you doubt that the One who does this is fully capable of bringing you back to life after your death? The resurrection (al-Khurūj) is not a distant impossibility; it is as real and as certain as the spring that follows the drought.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, look around you. Every time you see a barren land turn green, every time you see a withered tree bear fruit again, you are witnessing a living proof of the Resurrection. This is not a random event — it is a sign from your Lord, calling you to believe in the Hereafter and to prepare for it. The same Allah who feeds you today from the earth will raise you from it tomorrow. So let this verse fill your heart with hope and awe: hope in His mercy, and awe of His power. Do not let your heart be harder than the dead earth — for when the rain of divine guidance falls upon a humble heart, it blooms with faith. And remember: just as the earth's revival is certain, so too is your return to your Lord. Make that return a beautiful one, filled with good deeds and sincere repentance.
