Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Sā’iq (سَائِق): A driver or one who urges forward — here, an angel appointed to drive every soul to the gathering place (al-Maḥshar) on the Day of Resurrection.
- Shahīd (شَهِيد): A witness — here, an angel who testifies to all the deeds, both good and evil, that the soul performed during its worldly life.
Tafsir (Explanation):
On the Day of Judgment, when the trumpet is blown and creation is raised from their graves, every single soul — no matter who they were, no matter where they lived, no matter how hidden their deeds — will arrive at the scene of reckoning accompanied by two angels. One angel drives the soul forward, compelling it toward the gathering place, while the other stands as a witness, fully aware of everything that person did in this world. Not a single act, word, or even secret intention will be missing from that testimony. The driver brings the body to the court of Allah, and the witness brings the truth of one’s life to light.
This verse paints a vivid picture of individual accountability. No one will come alone, and no one will come without proof. The angel of driving ensures that no soul can escape or delay the appointment, and the angel of witnessing ensures that no soul can deny or hide what it has done. Together, they strip away every excuse and leave the person face-to-face with the reality of their own life.
A Da’wah Reflection:
Beloved reader, imagine that moment — you are walking toward your Lord, and beside you is a witness who never missed a single chapter of your story. Every prayer you offered, every kindness you showed, every tear you shed in secret, and every wrong you committed — all recorded. But here is the beautiful news: this same witness will speak the truth, and the truth is on your side if you lived for Allah. The One who appointed the witness is the Most Merciful, and His justice is perfect. So let this verse awaken in you a beautiful urgency: live today in a way that makes your witness proud to testify for you, not against you. Turn to Allah now, before that day when the driver comes for you, and let your deeds be your best companion. The door of repentance is open, and the mercy of Allah is vaster than all your sins. Do not wait — for that day, every soul will come, and the witness will not be silent.
