Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

(As-Sur): The Trumpet/ Horn that will be blown by the Angel Israfil. It is a mighty horn of light, and its blowing marks the end of this world and the beginning of the Hereafter.
(Al-Wa'eed): The threat/ promise of punishment that Allah has warned the disbelievers about.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this profound verse, Allah informs us of a moment of absolute finality and awe: the Trumpet will be blown—the second blast—which is the blast of resurrection. This is the moment when every soul that has ever lived will rise from its grave, standing before its Lord. It is the day when the threat of punishment that Allah promised to the disbelievers and the sinners will be fulfilled with perfect justice.

This is not merely a warning; it is a declaration of certainty. The blowing of the Trumpet is a cosmic event that shatters the illusion of permanence in this worldly life. All the power, wealth, and status that people once boasted about will mean nothing. On that day, every deed—good or evil—will be brought to light, and the promise of Allah will come to pass without fail.

For the believers, this verse serves as a beautiful reminder that Allah's promise of reward is just as certain as His threat of punishment. It fills the heart with hope and motivates the soul to strive for righteousness, knowing that the Day of Judgment is real and near. It is a call to prepare for that inevitable meeting with our Creator—a meeting where mercy awaits those who believed and acted righteously, and where justice awaits those who rejected the truth.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, imagine standing on that Day—the Day of Al-Wa'eed—when every soul is called to account. Would you not want to be among those who are greeted with peace and mercy? The Qur'an repeatedly invites us to reflect on this reality so that we may return to Allah before it is too late. The door of repentance is open right now, in this very moment. Do not let the distractions of this world make you forget the purpose of your existence. Turn to Allah with a sincere heart, for He is the Most Merciful, and His promise of Paradise for the believers is even greater than His threat of punishment for the disbelievers. The choice is yours—and the time is now.

Man does not utter any word except that with him is an observer prepared [to record].
And the intoxication of death will bring the truth; that is what you were trying to avoid.
And the Horn will be blown. That is the Day of [carrying out] the threat.
And every soul will come, with it a driver and a witness.
[It will be said], "You were certainly in unmindfulness of this, and We have removed from you your cover, so your sight, this Day, is sharp."
