Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Alqiya (أَلْقِيَا): "Cast" or "throw" — a command addressed to two beings, meaning "both of you, cast."
  • Jahannam (جَهَنَّمَ): Hellfire — the deepest and most severe level of Hell.
  • Kaffar (كَفَّارٍ): One who is intensely and persistently ungrateful and disbelieving — the emphatic form indicates a habit of denial.
  • Anid (عَنِيدٍ): Stubborn, obstinate, and defiant — one who knowingly rejects the truth and turns away from it in arrogance.

The Interpretation:

On the Day of Judgment, when all of creation is gathered and the accounts are settled, Allah — in His perfect justice — will command the two angels assigned to every soul (the one who drove the person to the gathering and the one who bore witness to their deeds) to cast into the blazing Fire every person who combined two terrible traits: persistent, hardened disbelief and stubborn defiance of the truth.

Such a person did not merely err or slip into sin; rather, they made disbelief a habit and a lifestyle. They were repeatedly called to the truth, yet they turned away with arrogance and obstinacy. They knew the truth in their hearts but refused to submit, and they rejected the signs of Allah with pride and hostility.

This description encompasses those who deny Allah's oneness, doubt His promise of reward and punishment, and persist in their rejection until the very end. Their punishment in Jahannam is the natural and just consequence of their own choice — for they were given clarity, yet chose blindness; they were given guidance, yet chose misguidance.

A Call to Reflection:

This verse is a profound reminder of the gravity of disbelief and arrogance. How often do we see those who, when the truth is presented to them clearly, turn away with a hardened heart? The Quran warns us that such an attitude — persisting in denial and stubbornly rejecting guidance — leads to a fate that no one would wish for themselves.

Yet, the door of repentance remains open in this life. Allah, in His infinite mercy, does not hasten punishment; He gives every soul the chance to return to Him. So let this verse awaken in us a sincere love for the truth, a humility to accept it, and a gratitude to our Lord for His countless blessings. Let us not be among those who are described as "kaffar" — persistently ungrateful — but rather among those who say, "We hear and we obey," and who strive to live in submission to their Creator.

For the believer, this verse is also a source of comfort: it reassures us that justice will prevail. Every oppressor, every arrogant denier, will face their due. And for those who believe and do righteous deeds, there is a reward beyond imagination — eternal bliss in the gardens of Paradise. May Allah protect us all from the fate of the stubborn deniers and grant us steadfastness upon the path of truth.

📜 Verse 22-26 — Qaf

[It will be said], "You were certainly in unmindfulness of this, and We have removed from you your cover, so your sight, this Day, is sharp."
And his companion, [the angel], will say, "This [record] is what is with me, prepared."
[Allah will say], "Throw into Hell every obstinate disbeliever,
Preventer of good, aggressor, and doubter,
Who made [as equal] with Allah another deity; then throw him into the severe punishment."
