Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Qablu (قَبْلُ): Before, meaning in the previous worldly life.
  • Fī Ahlinā (فِي أَهْلِنَا): Among our family and household.
  • Mushfiqīn (مُشْفِقِينَ): Those who are fearful and apprehensive, filled with awe and dread of something — here, specifically the fear of Allah's punishment and His reckoning on the Day of Judgment.

Tafsir (Explanation):

In the blissful gardens of Paradise, the righteous believers will turn to one another, exchanging joyful conversation about the magnificent blessings they now enjoy. When asked about the cause of this great honor and salvation, they will reply with hearts full of gratitude: "Indeed, we were before — in our worldly life, among our families and loved ones — people who were deeply fearful and cautious." They did not live heedlessly or arrogantly; rather, their hearts were filled with reverent awe of their Lord. They feared His punishment, His justice, and the terrors of the Day of Resurrection. This fear was not a paralysing despair, but a wakeful, guiding consciousness that kept them mindful of their duties, softened their hearts, and drove them toward obedience and repentance. It was this very fear — coupled with hope in Allah's mercy — that led them to strive in good deeds, to guard their tongues, to purify their wealth, and to stand in prayer at night while others slept. Their families witnessed their devotion, and they carried this God-consciousness into every corner of their lives. And so, because of that sincere fear and the actions it produced, Allah showered upon them His grace, guided them to the straight path, and ultimately admitted them into gardens of eternal delight, safe from every sorrow and every punishment. Their answer serves as a beautiful reminder: the fear of Allah in this world is not a burden — it is the key to everlasting peace in the next.

📜 Verse 24-28 — At-Tur

There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected.
And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.
They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah].
So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire.
Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful."
