Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • تَجْرِي (Tajree): It sails or runs smoothly upon the water.
(Bi-a’yunina): Under Our sight, watchful care, and divine protection.
(Jazaa’an): As a reward or recompense.
(Limana kana kufir): For him who was denied, rejected, and disbelieved—meaning Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him), who was denied by his own people.

The Interpretation:

In this noble verse, Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) describes the magnificent scene of the ark carrying Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) and the believers who joined him. The ship sailed through towering, tumultuous waves—not by chance or human skill alone—but "under Our eyes," meaning under Allah’s perfect sight, absolute knowledge, and continuous protection. Nothing about that voyage was hidden from Him; every plank, every wave, and every breath of its passengers was under His watchful care.

This was not merely an act of rescue; it was a divine recompense for Nuh (peace be upon him), who had been rejected, mocked, and disbelieved by his people for centuries. He endured their denial with patience, called them to monotheism day and night, and never wavered in his mission. So Allah honored him by saving him and his followers, while drowning the disbelievers who had stubbornly refused the truth. The very ship that carried the believers became a sign of victory for the one who was "kufir"—denied and rejected—and a proof that Allah never abandons His righteous servants.

This verse also affirms, in a manner befitting His majesty, that Allah has two eyes, as He describes Himself, without us asking "how" or likening Him to His creation. It is a reminder that the Creator sees all, knows all, and His care encompasses every detail of His creation.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder this: the One who guided that ark through the storm is the same One who watches over you today. If you ever feel rejected by people, or your sincerity is denied, remember Nuh (peace be upon him)—he was denied for 950 years, yet Allah never forgot him. Your worth is not measured by human acceptance, but by Allah’s sight of you. When you stand firm upon truth, even if the whole world turns against you, know that you sail under the eyes of the Most Merciful. He sees your tears, your struggles, and your patience—and His recompense is greater than any praise or recognition this world can offer.

Let this verse fill your heart with tranquility: you are never alone. The Creator of the heavens and the earth is watching over you with love, wisdom, and justice. So hold fast to His path, and trust that the same Allah who saved Nuh will never let your sincere efforts go to waste.

📜 Verse 12-16 — Al-Qamar

And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined.
And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails,
Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied.
And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember?
And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.
