Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • كَذَّبُوا – They denied and rejected the truth that was brought to them.
  • أَهْوَاءَهُمْ – Their desires and whims; their inclinations toward falsehood and away from guidance.
  • مُسْتَقِرٌّ – Settled, established, and firmly fixed; a matter that will ultimately come to rest in its final place.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah describes the state of those who reject the truth. They did not merely disbelieve out of ignorance or lack of evidence—rather, they deliberately denied the Prophet (peace be upon him) and what he brought from his Lord. Their denial was not based on sound reasoning, but on the pursuit of their own whims and desires. They followed their passions, which led them to reject the clear signs and miracles that were shown to them.

The verse then delivers a profound and decisive truth: "And every matter will settle into its final state." This is a powerful reminder that nothing remains unsettled forever. Every deed—whether good or evil—will ultimately find its proper place and consequence. On the Day of Judgment, the truth will be fully manifest: those who followed their desires in rejection will face the consequences of their choice, while those who submitted to their Lord will be rewarded with Paradise. The matters that seemed confused or delayed in this world will be resolved with perfect justice in the Hereafter.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse carries a timeless lesson for every human being. It tells us that our choices in this life are not without consequence. The one who follows their desires—turning away from the clear guidance of Allah—may appear to succeed temporarily, but the ultimate settlement is with Allah. Conversely, the one who restrains their desires in obedience to Allah may face hardship now, but their final abode is eternal bliss.

Let this verse be a mirror for your soul. Ask yourself: What am I following? Am I pursuing my whims, or am I pursuing the pleasure of my Creator? The promise of Allah is true: every matter will settle. The Day will come when every soul will find exactly what it earned—nothing more, nothing less. So choose today what you wish to meet tomorrow. Choose the path of guidance, for it leads to everlasting success, while the path of desires leads only to regret. May Allah guide us all to the straight path and settle our affairs in the best of states.
