Surah Al-Waqi'ah — Verse 90

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse continues the detailed description of the three categories of people on the Day of Judgment — the foremost (the forerunners), the people of the right hand, and the people of the left hand. After describing the honor and reward of the foremost, Allah now turns to the second group: the people of the right hand.

The verse states: "And if he [the dying person] is of the people of the right hand..." — meaning, if the one whose soul is being taken at the moment of death belongs to the companions of the right, then his fate is one of complete peace and security. The following verse (91) completes the picture by saying that such a person is greeted with the words: "Peace be upon you, for you are of the people of the right hand."

This is a profound and comforting message. The people of the right hand are those who lived their lives in obedience to Allah, followed His commands, avoided major sins, and strove to do good.
