Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Rawḥ (رَوْحٌ): Rest, mercy, and relief from all hardship and fatigue.
  • Rayḥān (رَيْحَانٌ): A pleasant provision, fragrant sustenance, and a source of delight and comfort.
  • Jannatu Naʿīm (جَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ): The Garden of Delight, a paradise filled with everlasting bliss and all that the soul desires.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse continues the description of the three categories of people at the moment of death, focusing on the foremost believers—those who are nearest to Allah. For such a person, at the time of leaving this world, there is rawḥ: an expansive mercy and profound rest that removes every trace of weariness and fear. They are greeted with rayḥān: a fragrant, pure provision and a joyful state that brings peace to the heart and soul, as well as a delightful sustenance that knows no end. And ultimately, they are granted Jannatu Naʿīm: a Garden of perpetual bliss, where every pleasure is pure, every desire is fulfilled, and where they will dwell forever in the company of the righteous and the prophets.

This is the reward of those who hastened to good deeds in life, who purified their hearts with faith, and who lived in constant remembrance of their Lord. Their end is not merely salvation from punishment, but an overflowing generosity from Allah—rest, fragrance, and a paradise that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart can imagine.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, ponder this beautiful promise: Allah does not describe the end of His beloved servants with mere safety, but with *rest*, *fragrance*, and *a garden of delight*. This is the destiny of those who turn to Him sincerely. Let this verse inspire you to draw closer to Allah, to seek His pleasure in every action, and to long for that moment when you, too, will be welcomed with rawḥ and rayḥān. For the Qur’an is not just a book to be read—it is a guide to a life that leads to eternal joy. Embrace its teachings, and let your heart find peace in the remembrance of the Most Merciful, who has prepared such wonders for those who love Him.

📜 Verse 87-91 — Al-Waqi'ah

Bring it back, if you should be truthful?
And if the deceased was of those brought near to Allah,
Then [for him is] rest and bounty and a garden of pleasure.
And if he was of the companions of the right,
Then [the angels will say], "Peace for you; [you are] from the companions of the right."
