Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- لن تغني (Lan tughniya): Will never avail or suffice; will never protect or ward off.
- من الله شيئًا (min Allahi shay'an): Against Allah's punishment in the least; nothing whatsoever from Allah's decree or chastisement.
- أصحاب النار (Ashab an-Nar): Companions of the Fire; those who are permanently associated with it.
- خالدون (khalidun): Abiding forever; eternal dwellers with no exit.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah Almighty declares a profound and sobering truth: neither the wealth of the hypocrites nor their children will be of any benefit to them on the Day of Judgment. No matter how abundant their riches, how influential their families, or how strong their social standing, none of these worldly assets can shield them from Allah's punishment or ransom them from His justice. Wealth cannot buy salvation, and children cannot intercede on their behalf when Allah's decree is issued.
These people—who outwardly displayed faith while inwardly harboring disbelief, and who opposed Allah's religion through their words and deeds—are the rightful companions of the Fire. Their association with it is not temporary or fleeting; rather, they will abide therein forever, never to leave, and their torment will never be interrupted or lightened. The word "companions" (ashab) here signifies a lasting, inseparable bond, just as a companion is never far from those they accompany. Thus, they will be eternally linked to the Fire, and the Fire to them.
This verse carries a universal lesson that extends beyond the specific historical context: those who turn people away from Allah's path, whether by speech or action, and who rely on their worldly resources instead of sincere faith, will find all their defenses useless in the Hereafter. No amount of money, no number of children, and no worldly power can stand between a soul and the consequence of its deeds.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, let this verse awaken your heart. How often do we place our trust in what we own or whom we know, forgetting that the only thing that truly matters is our relationship with Allah? Your wealth is a test, not a guarantee. Your children are a blessing, not a shield. The only provision that will avail you on that Day is your faith, your sincere repentance, and your righteous deeds.
Now is the time to turn back to Allah with a truthful heart. Do not be like those who deceived themselves, thinking that outward appearances or worldly abundance would save them. The door of repentance is open, and Allah's mercy is vast. He accepts those who return to Him sincerely and forgives all sins for those who seek His forgiveness with true remorse. Seize this moment, before the Day arrives when no wealth, no family, and no power can help you—only your deeds will speak, and your faith will be your companion. Let this verse be a turning point in your life, a reason to prioritize the eternal over the temporary, and to live as one who truly understands the purpose of this world: to worship Allah alone and to prepare for the everlasting life to come.
