Word Meanings:

  • Al-Ghaniyy (الْغَنِيُّ): The Self-Sufficient, the One who is free of all needs and wants.
  • Dhu al-Rahmah (ذُو الرَّحْمَةِ): The Possessor of vast and encompassing mercy.
  • Yudhhibakum (يُذْهِبْكُمْ): He takes you away, destroys you, or causes you to perish.
  • Yastakhlif (يَسْتَخْلِفُ): He brings forth successors, creates others to take your place.
  • Dhurriyyah (ذُرِّيَّةٍ): Offspring, descendants, or progeny.

Explanation of the Verse:

O Messenger, your Lord—the One who has commanded all of humanity to worship Him alone—is completely free of any need for His creation. He does not require your obedience, nor does your disobedience harm Him in the least. His richness is absolute and perfect, while every single creature stands in desperate need of Him. Yet, despite His complete self-sufficiency, He is not a Lord of harshness or indifference—rather, He is the Possessor of boundless mercy, a mercy that encompasses all things and reaches even those who turn away from Him.

If He so willed, He could wipe you all out entirely—removing you from the face of the earth—and bring forth a new creation after you, a people who would worship Him sincerely, obey His commands, and fill the earth with righteousness. He has the absolute power to replace you with those who are better and more obedient, just as He originally brought you into existence from the offspring of nations that came before you. Those earlier peoples were once powerful and numerous, yet they passed away, and you took their place. In the same way, if you fail in your duty to your Lord, He can replace you with others who will honor His covenant.

This verse carries a profound warning to the disbelievers of Makkah and to all who persist in disobedience: do not be deceived by your numbers, your strength, or your resources. Your existence is not a right—it is a gift from the Most Merciful, and He can withdraw that gift at any moment and grant it to others who are more deserving.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on the greatness of this truth. The Lord of the heavens and the earth does not need your worship—yet He invites you to it out of His mercy, so that you may attain His reward and avoid His punishment. He has given you life, health, provision, and countless blessings, not because He needed to, but because His mercy overflows.

Do not take His patience as a sign of weakness. His mercy is vast, but so is His power. He has replaced entire nations before you—the people of Nuh, of 'Ad, of Thamud—and He can do the same with you. The very fact that you are reading these words today is a testament to His mercy; He has given you another chance to turn back to Him.

So seize this moment. Let the awareness of His self-sufficiency humble you, and let the knowledge of His mercy fill you with hope. He does not need you, but He loves for you to need Him. Come to Him in sincerity, and He will never turn you away. For He is the One who says, "Call upon Me, I will respond to you" (Ghafir: 60). Do not be among those who are replaced—be among those who are honored and beloved.

📜 Verse 131-135 — Al-An'am

That is because your Lord would not destroy the cities for wrongdoing while their people were unaware.
And for all are degrees from what they have done. And your Lord is not unaware of what they do.
And your Lord is the Free of need, the possessor of mercy. If He wills, he can do away with you and give succession after you to whomever He wills, just as He produced you from the descendants of another people.
Indeed, what you are promised is coming, and you will not cause failure [to Allah].
Say, "O my people, work according to your position; [for] indeed, I am working. And you are going to know who will have succession in the home. Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed.
