- "Baiyinah" (بَيِّنَةٌ): A clear, decisive proof or evidence that leaves no room for doubt.
- "Hudan" (هُدًى): Guidance that leads to the truth and righteousness.
- "Rahmah" (رَحْمَةٌ): Mercy, a blessing from Allah that brings about goodness and protection from evil.
- "Sadafa" (صَدَفَ): To turn away, to avert oneself from something with aversion and rejection.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah, in His infinite mercy, closes every door of excuse that humanity might use on the Day of Judgment. Among the excuses the disbelievers of Makkah used to make was: "If only a Book had been sent down to us as it was sent to the Jews and Christians, we would have been more rightly guided than them." They claimed that had they received divine revelation, they would have been the most obedient and the most devoted.
So Allah responds to this claim with a decisive and powerful answer: "Indeed, there has come to you a clear proof from your Lord" — and that is the Qur'an, revealed in your own Arabic tongue, to a Prophet from among yourselves, Muhammad (peace be upon him). This Qur'an is not merely a book; it is a clear proof that establishes the truth beyond any doubt, a guidance that illuminates the path to righteousness, and a mercy for all of humanity — a mercy that calls you to success in this life and salvation in the Hereafter.
Therefore, no one is more unjust than the one who, after this clear proof has arrived, still chooses to deny the signs of Allah and turns away from them. Such a person has no excuse left. They have seen the light and deliberately shut their eyes to it.
And for those who turn away from Allah's signs, Allah promises a severe punishment — the worst of torments — as a direct consequence of their own turning away. This is not arbitrary punishment; it is the natural and just result of rejecting the very guidance that was sent out of love and mercy for them.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse is a beautiful reminder that Allah never leaves a soul without guidance. He sent His final Book, the Qur'an, as the ultimate proof and the greatest mercy. The door of guidance is open for you right now — not in the past, not in the future, but in this very moment. Do not be like those who waited for excuses. Embrace this light, and you will find peace, purpose, and a path that leads to eternal success. The Qur'an is your proof, your guidance, and your mercy — so let it transform your heart today.
