Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Furūjihim (فروجهم): Their private parts; refers to chastity and guarding one's modesty.
  • Ḥāfiẓūn (حافظون): Those who protect, preserve, and keep safe from anything forbidden.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse describes another noble quality of the believers who are destined for Paradise. They are those who guard their chastity and protect their private parts from anything that Allah has forbidden. This means they abstain from all forms of illicit sexual relations, whether with married individuals, unlawful partners, or any other prohibited means. They do not approach indecency in any form—whether open or hidden—and they restrain their desires within the boundaries that Allah has set.

Their protection is not merely physical but also includes guarding their eyes, their thoughts, and their hearts from anything that could lead them toward sin. They understand that the body is a trust from Allah, and they honor that trust by keeping it pure and untainted. This guarding is a reflection of their deep faith and their awareness that Allah sees all that they do.

This quality is mentioned alongside prayer, charity, and belief in the Day of Judgment, showing that true faith encompasses both the rights of Allah and the rights of one's own soul. A believer who guards their chastity demonstrates self-control, discipline, and a profound respect for the sacred limits set by their Creator.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Islam teaches us that purity is not a restriction—it is a liberation. When you guard your chastity, you free yourself from guilt, regret, and the spiritual harm that comes with transgression. You protect your honor, your family, and your peace of mind. This verse invites every soul to reflect: What kind of life do you want to lead? A life of dignity and self-respect, or one of fleeting pleasure that leaves lasting scars? Allah, in His infinite mercy, has shown us the path that leads to true happiness—both in this world and the Hereafter. Embrace it, and you will find a tranquility that no sin can ever offer.
