Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- جَدُّ رَبِّنَا – The majesty, glory, and supreme greatness of our Lord.
- صَاحِبَةً – A spouse or companion (i.e., a wife).
- وَلَدًا – A child or offspring.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse is part of the speech of the jinn who believed in the Qur'an and embraced Islam. They declared, with awe and reverence: "And that the majesty of our Lord has soared far above every imperfection—He is Exalted in His glory, His power, and His holiness. He has never taken a spouse, nor has He ever begotten a son." This statement is a firm rejection of the false claims of the polytheists, who alleged that Allah had a wife or children. The jinn, upon hearing the Qur'an, recognized the absolute oneness and transcendence of Allah, and they affirmed that He is free from all human-like attributes, needs, or limitations. His greatness is beyond comparison, and His essence is utterly unique—He is the Creator of all, needing nothing, while all creation depends on Him. This declaration is a cornerstone of Islamic monotheism (Tawhid), which purifies the heart from any notion of partnership or likeness to Allah.
Da'wah Reflection:
This verse carries a profound lesson for every seeker of truth: the Qur'an is a living miracle that transforms hearts, even those of unseen beings. When the jinn heard it, they immediately recognized the truth and submitted to their Lord, declaring His perfection. How beautiful is this faith that purifies the soul from false beliefs and fills it with the light of certainty! Allah, the Exalted, is far above any need for a companion or child—He is the Self-Sufficient, the Eternal, the One who created everything from nothing. Let us, as believers, reflect on this magnificent truth and let it deepen our love and reverence for our Creator. If the jinn could embrace this message with such sincerity, how much more should we, who have been given the Qur'an and the guidance of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), strive to live by it and share it with others? Indeed, in this verse lies a call to purify our faith, to reject all forms of shirk (associating partners with Allah), and to worship Allah alone with a heart full of gratitude and humility. May Allah make us among those who truly understand His greatness and worship Him as He deserves.
