Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Safeehuna (سَفِيهُنَا): Our foolish one — referring to Iblis (Satan), who is described as foolish due to his ignorance and arrogance.
  • Shatatan (شَطَطًا): A deviation from the truth — meaning speech that is unjust, excessive, and far from what is right, including lies and false claims.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this noble verse, the jinn are recounting their experience upon hearing the Qur'an and embracing faith. They acknowledge that among them there was a foolish one — and that is Iblis, the accursed — who used to utter grave falsehoods against Allah, the Exalted. He claimed that Allah has a spouse and a son, attributing to Him what is utterly incompatible with His majesty and perfection. This was a severe transgression and a blatant lie, for Allah is far above any such imperfections. The jinn, upon hearing the Qur'an, realized the magnitude of this error and distanced themselves from it, recognizing the truth about their Lord — that He is One, Self-Sufficient, and free from all defects.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse teaches us a profound lesson about the importance of speaking about Allah with knowledge and reverence. How often do people today attribute falsehoods to Allah — whether by denying His attributes, misrepresenting His religion, or inventing claims about Him without evidence? The Qur'an corrects these distortions and calls us back to the pure, untainted knowledge of our Creator. When we learn about Allah through His Book and the authentic teachings of His Prophet ﷺ, our hearts find peace, and our tongues are guarded from saying anything but the truth. Let this verse inspire you to seek knowledge sincerely, to love Allah with a love rooted in understanding, and to stand firm against every false claim about Him. The path of truth is clear, and the Qur'an is its guiding light — embrace it, and you will find success in this life and the next.

📜 Verse 2-6 — Al-Jinn

It guides to the right course, and we have believed in it. And we will never associate with our Lord anyone.
And [it teaches] that exalted is the nobleness of our Lord; He has not taken a wife or a son
And that our foolish one has been saying about Allah an excessive transgression.
And we had thought that mankind and the jinn would never speak about Allah a lie.
And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden.
