Word Meanings:

  • Nazzalna (نَزَّلْنَا): We sent down gradually, in stages, not all at once.
  • Tanzilan (تَنزِيلًا): A gradual, measured, and well-ordered revelation, step by step.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this profound verse, Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) addresses His beloved Messenger ﷺ with a declaration of His own supreme power and grace: "Indeed, it is We Who have sent down upon you the Qur'an, a gradual sending down."

This verse carries several deep meanings:

First, Allah emphasizes His exclusive role in this revelation by using the emphatic form "إِنَّا نَحْنُ" (Indeed, We Ourselves). This removes any doubt that the Qur'an is the pure, unadulterated word of Allah — not the words of a human, not a poetic composition, not a borrowed scripture. It is a direct communication from the Creator of the heavens and the earth to His chosen servant.

Second, the word "تَنزِيلًا" (tanzilan) indicates that the Qur'an was revealed gradually, over a period of approximately 23 years, in portions and contexts. This was not a random choice but a divine wisdom: the gradual revelation allowed the early Muslims to absorb the teachings step by step, to implement them progressively, and to have their hearts strengthened with each new revelation that addressed their specific circumstances. As Allah says elsewhere: "And those who disbelieve say, 'Why was the Qur'an not revealed to him all at once?' Thus [it is] that We may strengthen thereby your heart. And We have spaced it distinctly." (Al-Furqan: 32)

Third, this verse carries a beautiful reassurance for the Prophet ﷺ and for every believer: Allah Himself took charge of delivering this Book. The One who sent it down is the One who will protect it, preserve it, and guarantee its victory. The Prophet ﷺ was not left alone in his mission — the Creator of all existence was with him, guiding him through His words.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, pause and contemplate the majesty of this statement. The Lord of the worlds, the Creator of every atom in existence, turned His attention to you and to me by sending down this glorious Qur'an. This is not an ordinary book — it is a divine letter addressed to humanity, containing the blueprint for happiness in this life and salvation in the Hereafter.

The gradual revelation teaches us a beautiful lesson: just as the Qur'an was revealed in stages, our journey of faith is also gradual. Do not be discouraged if you cannot change everything at once. Take your relationship with the Qur'an step by step — read a little each day, understand it, reflect on it, and implement it. The One who revealed it gradually knows your capacity and your circumstances.

Moreover, this verse invites you to honor the Qur'an by engaging with it daily. It is the living miracle that remains with us today, unchanged and unchangeable. Every letter you recite carries reward, every verse you ponder opens a door of wisdom, and every command you implement brings you closer to your Creator.

Let this verse fill your heart with certainty: the Qur'an is from Allah, it is protected by Allah, and it will lead those who hold fast to it to the highest ranks in Paradise. Make it your companion, your guide, and your light — for it is the speech of the One who loves you more than you can ever imagine.

📜 Verse 21-25 — Al-Insan

Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink.
[And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated."
Indeed, it is We who have sent down to you, [O Muhammad], the Qur'an progressively.
So be patient for the decision of your Lord and do not obey from among them a sinner or ungrateful [disbeliever].
And mention the name of your Lord [in prayer] morning and evening
