Word Meanings:

  • Al-Muhsineen: Those who perfect their deeds, performing them with sincerity and excellence, as if seeing Allah, knowing that He sees them.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse is a divine declaration of the principle of recompense: "Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good." It comes as a comforting and reassuring statement following the description of the bliss that awaits the righteous in Paradise—shade, flowing springs, and abundant fruits of their desire. Allah tells them: "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past" (69:24). Then He affirms that this magnificent reward is not a stroke of luck or an accident—it is the established, unbroken way of Allah with His righteous servants. Just as He rewarded the believers described in the preceding verses, He rewards every person who excels in faith and action. The "good" here encompasses both correctness in belief—pure monotheism free from shirk—and excellence in practice—sincere obedience to Allah's commands and avoidance of His prohibitions. This is a universal, timeless promise: whoever beautifies their character, purifies their intention, and perfects their worship will find that Allah never lets their effort go to waste.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on the beauty of this divine promise. The Creator of the heavens and the earth—the One who needs nothing from His creation—has taken it upon Himself to reward those who do good. He does not say "We will reward" but "We reward," indicating that this is His continuous, ongoing practice. No good deed, however small, is ever lost with Allah. A kind word, a charitable gesture, a prayer in the depths of the night, a tear shed in fear of Him—all are preserved and will return to you in forms you cannot imagine. This is the essence of Islam: a relationship with your Lord built on love, hope, and sincere striving. The door of ihsan (excellence) is open to every one of you, regardless of your past. Begin today—perfect your prayer, beautify your character, and treat others with kindness. For indeed, Allah rewards the doers of good in this life with peace and contentment, and in the Hereafter with what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has ever conceived.

[Being told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."
