Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Waylun (وَيْلٌ): Destruction, severe punishment, or a valley in Hell reserved for the disbelievers. It is an expression of intense woe and calamity.
  • Yawma-idhin (يَوْمَئِذٍ): On that Day—referring to the Day of Resurrection and Judgment.
  • Lil-mukadhdhibīn (لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ): For those who deny—specifically, those who reject the truth of the Hereafter, the resurrection, the reckoning, and the rewards and punishments that Allah has promised.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse serves as a powerful and solemn warning directed at those who deny the Day of Judgment and all that it entails. After describing the bliss and eternal delights prepared for the righteous—those who feared their Lord in this worldly life, obeyed His commands, and avoided His prohibitions—Allah follows with a stark contrast: "Woe on that Day to the deniers."

The meaning is that destruction, loss, and severe torment await those who rejected the truth, mocked the promises of Allah, and refused to believe in the resurrection, the accounting of deeds, and the reality of Paradise and Hellfire. They will face the very punishment they once ridiculed or dismissed. The repetition of this phrase throughout Surah Al-Mursalat serves as a recurring refrain, emphasizing the certainty of this fate and the gravity of their denial.

This verse is not merely a threat but a call to reflection. It reminds every soul that the choices made in this fleeting world carry eternal consequences. The deniers, who lived as if there were no accountability, will find themselves facing a reality they cannot escape. Their loss is absolute—no intercession will avail them, and no second chance will be granted.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse is a mercy in disguise. It is Allah’s way of awakening hearts before it is too late. The warning is clear, but the door of repentance remains open in this life. Do not be among those who hear the truth and turn away. Let this verse stir within you a sincere desire to prepare for that Day—a Day when every deed, big or small, will be brought to light. Embrace faith, act with righteousness, and seek Allah’s forgiveness. For the One who promises woe to the deniers is the same One who promises gardens of delight to the believers. Choose the path of success before the Day arrives when no choice remains.
