Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Habban (حَبًّا): Grains and seeds that are cultivated and harvested, such as wheat, barley, and other staple crops that serve as food for humans.
- Nabatan (نَبَاتًا): Vegetation and plants that grow from the earth, including herbs, grasses, and foliage that serve as fodder for animals.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse follows the mention of rain being sent down from the rain-bearing clouds in abundance. Allah says that He sends this water for a profound purpose: to bring forth from the earth grains and vegetation. The water that descends from the sky is not merely a natural phenomenon—it is a divine act of mercy and provision. Through this water, Allah causes the earth to produce the essential sustenance for all living beings. The grains mentioned include the staple foods that humans rely upon for their daily nourishment, such as wheat and barley, while the vegetation includes the various plants and grasses that feed livestock and other animals. This is a demonstration of Allah's perfect wisdom and His comprehensive care for His creation. He has arranged the entire system of life—from the clouds to the rain, from the soil to the seeds, from the harvest to the table—so that humanity may reflect on this blessing and recognize the Hand of the Creator behind it all.
Reflection and Da'wah:
When you sit down to eat your daily bread, pause for a moment and consider the journey that brought that simple grain to your plate. The clouds gathered, the rain fell, the earth split open, and the seed sprouted—all by the command of the Most Merciful. This is not a random accident; it is a deliberate act of love from your Lord, who knows that you need this food to survive. He could have made the earth barren and the sky dry, but He chose to shower His mercy upon you in the form of rain and vegetation. This is an invitation to gratitude and faith. If Allah cares for your physical sustenance so meticulously, how much more does He care for your spiritual well-being? He has sent down the Quran as a spiritual rain to revive your heart, just as He sends down rain to revive the earth. Open your heart to this divine message, and you will find that the same Lord who provides for your body is eager to provide for your soul. Let this reflection draw you closer to Him, for He is Al-Razzaq—the Supreme Provider—who never abandons those who turn to Him in sincerity.
