Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Al-Muʿṣirāt (المعصرات): The rain-bearing clouds that are pressed by the winds until they release their water, or clouds that are about to pour down rain.
  • Thajjāj (ثجاج): Water that pours forth abundantly and continuously, gushing in great quantity.

Tafsir (Explanation):

In this verse, Allah draws our attention to one of His magnificent signs in the universe: the sending down of rain from the clouds. He says, *"And We sent down from the rain-bearing clouds water pouring forth abundantly."*

The term "al-muʿṣirāt" refers to clouds that have been "pressed" or "squeezed" by the winds, as if they are being wrung out like a cloth, until they release their precious cargo of water. This imagery itself is a miracle—modern science has confirmed that clouds are indeed "pressed" by atmospheric forces and wind patterns, causing condensation and precipitation. The word "thajjāj" emphasizes that this water does not come as a mere drizzle, but as a powerful, continuous downpour that saturates the earth.

This abundant water is not sent in vain. It is the very source of life on Earth. From it, Allah brings forth grains and crops that sustain humanity, green pastures for livestock, and lush gardens with intertwined branches—all of which are mentioned in the following verses. The rain is a mercy from Allah, a provision that He sends down from the sky to revive the dead earth and provide for all living beings.

Reflect, dear reader, on this profound blessing. Every drop of rain that falls is a direct act of Allah's mercy and power. He could have made the clouds barren, the sky dry, and the earth lifeless. But instead, He orchestrates the winds, the clouds, and the rain with perfect precision to sustain you and every creature on this planet. This is not mere coincidence—it is the work of the All-Wise, the All-Merciful.

When you see rain falling, let it remind you of Allah's generosity and His constant care for His creation. Let it strengthen your faith and fill your heart with gratitude. And know that the One who sends down water from the sky is the same One who sent down the Qur'an as a guidance—both are mercies that bring life: one to the earth, and the other to the hearts. So turn to Him, thank Him, and worship Him alone, for He is the Provider and the Sustainer of all that exists.

📜 Verse 12-16 — An-Naba

12وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا
And constructed above you seven strong [heavens]
13وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا
And made [therein] a burning lamp
14وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ الْمُعْصِرَاتِ مَاءً ثَجَّاجًا
And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water
15لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا
That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation
16وَجَنَّاتٍ أَلْفَافًا
And gardens of entwined growth.
