Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah addresses the believers who had just witnessed the divine intervention of angels at the Battle of Badr. Allah clarifies that the sending of angels was not the actual cause of victory, but rather a glad tiding — a spiritual reassurance to calm their hearts and remove any fear or anxiety they might have felt in the face of a larger, better-equipped enemy. The purpose was to fill their hearts with certainty and tranquility, knowing that Allah Himself was their Protector and Supporter.
Allah then establishes a fundamental principle that every believer must internalize: victory comes only from Allah. It is not achieved through numbers, weapons, or military strength alone. No matter how strong or well-prepared an army may be, true success and triumph are granted solely by the will of Allah. This teaches us a profound lesson: we must take all necessary means and preparations, but our ultimate trust and reliance must be placed in Allah alone, not in our own capabilities.
The verse concludes by describing Allah with two of His beautiful attributes: Al-ʿAzīz — the Almighty who cannot be overpowered or defeated, and Al-Ḥakīm — the All-Wise who decrees victory at the perfect time and in the perfect manner, according to His infinite wisdom. This combination of power and wisdom assures the believer that Allah's help is not random or arbitrary; it is always precisely measured and perfectly timed.
A Call to Faith and Reflection:
Dear believer, let this verse be a source of immense hope and strength in your life. When you face challenges — whether personal struggles, societal pressures, or even battles against your own inner desires — remember that true victory lies not in your own strength, but in Allah's divine support. He is the One who turns the tables, who aids the weak against the strong, and who grants success to those who place their trust in Him.
So, purify your heart, strengthen your faith, and know with certainty that Allah's help is near. He is Al-ʿAziz — nothing can stand against His power — and He is Al-Ḥakim — He knows exactly when and how to grant you victory. Let your heart find peace in this beautiful promise, and let your soul be filled with the tranquility that comes from complete reliance on your Lord. For indeed, when Allah is with you, no force in the universe can stand against you.
