Surah 'Abasa — Verse 40

Explanation of the Verse:

On that tremendous Day — the Day of Judgment — while the faces of the blessed believers shine with light, joy, and radiance, there will be other faces covered with dust and darkness. This is the state of the wretched disbelievers and sinners: their faces are stained with gloom, overwhelmed by humiliation and regret. The dust that covers them is not merely physical; it is a visible sign of their inner ruin — the despair of souls that rejected the truth and wasted their lives in disobedience.

This verse paints a vivid contrast between the two groups on that Day: one honored and delighted, the other disgraced and sorrowful. The dust on their faces reflects the weight of their deeds — they turned away from Allah’s signs, denied His blessings, and persisted in arrogance and transgression. Now, in the presence of their Lord, they are left with nothing but shame and darkness.
