Surah Al-A'la — Verse 2

Word Meanings:

• Khalaqa (خَلَقَ): Created, brought into existence from nothing.
• Sawwa (سَوَّىٰ): Made equal, perfected, proportioned, and fashioned in perfect balance and harmony.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse is a continuation of the divine command to glorify the name of Allah, the Most High. Here, Allah describes Himself as "The One who created and then perfected (and proportioned)."

This means that Allah alone is the Creator of all that exists — the heavens, the earth, humanity, and every living thing — and He did not leave His creation in a state of chaos or imperfection. Rather, He fashioned everything in the most precise, balanced, and beautiful manner, giving each creature the form, shape, and qualities that perfectly suit its purpose. He created the human being in the best of stature, with a straight, upright posture, and with limbs and faculties perfectly proportioned for life on earth. He created the sky, the mountains, the oceans, and every atom within them with flawless order and harmony.

This verse invites every believer to pause and reflect: Look at your own hands, your eyes, the way your body works in perfect coordination — is this the result of random chance, or the work of a Wise, Mighty Creator? Indeed, the perfection of creation is the clearest proof of the perfection of the Creator.

A Da'wah Reflection:

When you truly grasp this verse, your heart fills with awe and love for Allah. The same Allah who created you and perfected your form is the One who hears your prayers, knows your struggles, and watches over you. He did not create you and leave you — He perfected you because He loves you and wants you to know Him. So, glorify His name, thank Him for the perfection He placed in you, and submit to Him with trust and gratitude. The One who perfected your creation is certainly capable of perfecting your affairs, guiding your path, and granting you success in this life and the Hereafter. Let this verse be a source of comfort: you are not a random accident — you are a deliberate, perfected creation of the Most Merciful, and your existence has a noble purpose.
