Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse is a profound source of comfort and motivation for every believer who strives in the cause of Allah. It tells us that no matter how small or large the expenditure you make in Allah's path — whether it is a single date given in charity or a vast fortune spent to equip an army — it is never lost. Likewise, every step you take, every valley you cross while journeying for the sake of Allah, whether in going forth for jihad or returning from it, is recorded with precision in your book of deeds.
Nothing escapes Allah's knowledge. Not a single coin, not a single stride, not a single moment of hardship endured in His way. Every action, however insignificant it may seem in your eyes, is weighed and preserved by the One who never forgets and never wrongs anyone.
The purpose of this recording is stated clearly: "That Allah may reward them with the best of what they used to do." This means that Allah, in His infinite mercy and generosity, does not merely give a reward equal to your deeds — He gives you the *best* reward, multiplied and elevated beyond what you could ever imagine. He chooses the finest of your deeds and rewards you based on it, as a gift of His grace.
Imagine a believer who spends a little and a lot, who travels far and wide for the sake of Allah, enduring the heat of the desert and the difficulty of the journey. This verse assures them that their efforts are not in vain. Every hardship, every sacrifice, every moment of patience is being collected into a treasure that will be unveiled on the Day of Judgment.
This is the beauty of Islam: it transforms even the smallest acts of giving and the most ordinary journeys into acts of worship that carry eternal value. It teaches us that Allah's accounting is not like human accounting — He does not overlook the small or the great, but rather He multiplies and rewards with the most excellent recompense.
So, dear believer, never underestimate your deeds. Never think that your small donation, your short trip for a good cause, or your modest contribution to the community is insignificant. Allah sees it all, and He has promised to reward you with the best of what you have done. Let this verse fill your heart with hope and motivate you to give generously and strive sincerely, for your Lord is the Most Generous, and His reward is beyond measure.
