Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Yatoobu (He turns in forgiveness): Means that Allah accepts the repentance of His servants and forgives them, erasing their sins.
- Min ba'di dhaalik (After that): Refers to after the punishment, defeat, and humiliation that befell the disbelievers in the battle.
- Alaa man yashaa' (Upon whom He wills): This indicates Allah's absolute wisdom and choice in guiding whom He pleases to Islam and repentance.
Tafsir (Explanation):
After the severe consequences that befell those who persisted in disbelief and hostility—after the defeat, the loss, and the humbling of their power—Allah, in His infinite mercy and grace, opens the door of repentance. He says: *"Then Allah turns in forgiveness after that upon whom He wills."*
This means that even after such great sins—after fighting against Allah and His Messenger, after persecution and transgression—if a person sincerely turns back to Allah and embraces Islam, Allah accepts their repentance. He does not close the door of mercy on anyone, no matter how great their sins may have been. The very people who fought against the truth, who tried to extinguish the light of Allah, could still find their way to guidance if they sincerely sought it.
And Allah is *Ghafoorur Raheem*—the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful. His forgiveness is vast, and His mercy encompasses all things. He does not delight in the punishment of His servants; rather, He delights in their repentance and return to Him.
Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, look at the beauty of this verse! It teaches us that no matter how far a person has strayed, no matter how many mistakes they have made, the door of Allah's mercy is always open. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: *"Allah extends His hand at night so that the sinner of the day may repent, and extends His hand during the day so that the sinner of the night may repent"* (Sahih Muslim).
This is the religion of Islam—a religion of hope, mercy, and second chances. It does not drive people away with despair; rather, it calls them with love and compassion. If you have made mistakes, if you have fallen into sin, if you have even opposed the truth—know that Allah's mercy is greater than your sins. Return to Him today, and you will find Him waiting with open arms of forgiveness. As He says in another verse: *"Say: O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful"* (Az-Zumar 39:53).
Let this verse be a source of hope and motivation for you. No sin is too great to be forgiven, and no heart is too hard to be softened. Turn to Allah sincerely, and He will transform your life.
