Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Ma Kataba Allahu Lana – What Allah has decreed and ordained for us in His eternal knowledge and the Preserved Tablet.
- Huwa Mawlana – He is our Protector, Guardian, and the One who manages our affairs.
- Falyatawakkal – Let them put their trust, rely upon, and surrender their matters to Him alone.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Prophet, say to those who hold back from striving in the cause of Allah, rebuking them and correcting their flawed thinking: "Nothing will ever befall us except that which Allah has written and decreed for us." This is a profound statement of faith that liberates the heart from the fear of creation and from anxiety about the future. Whatever reaches you could not have missed you, and whatever misses you could not have reached you — for everything is recorded in the Preserved Tablet before the creation of the heavens and the earth.
Allah, the Exalted, is our Mawla — our Protector, our Ally, and the One who takes charge of our affairs. He is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs. When a believer truly understands that Allah is his Guardian, he finds peace in every circumstance — in times of ease and hardship, in victory and in trial. His heart rests in the certainty that his Lord will never abandon him and that every decree carries wisdom and goodness.
Therefore, let the believers — those whose hearts are truly alive with faith — place their complete trust in Allah alone. Trusting in Allah does not mean neglecting means and efforts; rather, it means that after doing everything within one's power, the heart remains attached to Allah, knowing that results come only from Him. The believer relies on Allah in bringing about what benefits him and in warding off what harms him, fully convinced that Allah's choice for him is always better than his own choice for himself.
This verse carries a beautiful lesson for every Muslim: your life, your provision, your victories, and your trials are all in the hands of the Most Merciful. So why worry? Why fear? Why hesitate to do what is right? Place your trust in the One whose knowledge encompasses everything and whose mercy overshadows all. Indeed, Allah is sufficient for His believing servants, and He will never let them down.
