Translation — Tafsir

Explanation of the Verse:
This verse absolves a special group of sincere believers from any blame or sin — those who came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) with burning desire to join the expedition for jihad, but he had to tell them: "I do not find any mounts to carry you upon." These were seven companions, known as the "Weepers" (Al-Bakka'oon), because of the intensity of their sorrow.
When they heard this, they turned away with their eyes overflowing with tears — not out of disappointment with the Prophet's answer, but out of profound grief that they had missed the immense honor and reward of fighting in Allah's cause. Their tears flowed because they could not find anything to spend or any mount to ride, not because of any reluctance or excuse-making. Their hearts were so attached to the path of Allah that being unable to participate felt like a crushing loss.
This verse teaches us that Allah does not hold people accountable for what is beyond their capacity. What matters is the sincerity of intention and the genuine longing in the heart. These believers did everything they could — they came forward, they asked, they were ready to sacrifice — and Allah honored their effort and excused their inability.
A Call to Reflection:
How beautiful is this scene of devotion! These companions wept because they could not fight for Allah's cause. Their tears were a testament to the depth of their faith. Today, we should ask ourselves: do our hearts long for good deeds with such intensity? Do we feel sorrow when we miss an opportunity to serve Islam, to help others, or to draw closer to Allah?
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever sincerely asks for martyrdom, Allah will raise him to the ranks of the martyrs even if he dies in his bed" (Sahih Muslim). So let us nurture this sincere longing in our hearts — for Allah judges us by what our hearts genuinely desire and strive for, even when our circumstances prevent us from physical action. May Allah make us among those whose intentions are pure and whose tears flow out of love for Him.
