📖 English Meaning
And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink."
📜

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Nāqat Allah" (نَاقَةَ اللَّهِ): The she-camel of Allah, a miraculous sign sent by Allah as a proof of Prophet Salih's truthfulness. The attribution to Allah signifies its honor and sacredness.
  • "Suqyāhā" (وَسُقْيَاهَا): Her drink or share of water. The people of Thamud were to allow her to drink from the well on her designated day without hindrance.

Explanation of the Verse:

After the people of Thamud reached the utmost limit in their arrogance and disbelief, and the most wretched among them rose to harm the she-camel, Prophet Salih—peace be upon him—warned them clearly. He said: "This is Allah's she-camel, so do not touch her with any harm, and do not prevent her from drinking her share of water." The she-camel was a divine miracle and a clear proof of his prophethood. She had a fixed day to drink from the well, and the people had their own designated day, as Allah had ordained. Salih's warning was both a reminder of the sacredness of this sign and a mercy from Allah—an opportunity for them to repent and avoid the severe punishment that would follow any transgression against her.

This verse highlights the profound mercy of Allah: even after the people's persistent denial, He sent them a final warning through His messenger, giving them a chance to correct their ways. The command was simple—leave the she-camel and her water alone—yet their pride and stubbornness led them to reject this clear guidance.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Beloved reader, reflect on how Allah, in His infinite mercy, always sends warnings before punishment. He never destroys a people without first sending messengers and clear signs. The story of Thamud teaches us the value of heeding divine guidance and respecting the signs of Allah, whether they are miraculous creatures or the verses of the Qur'an we recite daily. When we obey Allah's commands, we protect ourselves from ruin and open the doors of His blessings. Let this be a reminder to soften our hearts, submit to Allah's will, and never let arrogance lead us to reject the truth. The Qur'an is our she-camel of guidance—honor it, follow it, and never turn away from its call, for in it lies our success in this life and the Hereafter.
