Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Faʿaqarūhā – They hamstrung or slaughtered the she-camel.
- Fadamdama – He brought down upon them complete destruction, covering them entirely with punishment.
- Fasawwāhā – He levelled it upon them equally, meaning He made the punishment encompass them all alike, sparing none.
Explanation of the Verse:
The people of Thamūd, in their ultimate defiance and arrogance, rejected the message of their Prophet Ṣāliḥ (peace be upon him) and denied the signs of their Lord. They did not merely disbelieve—they went further and committed the heinous act of killing the sacred she-camel, which was a clear miracle and proof sent by Allah. The most wretched among them rose to perpetrate this crime, yet the entire community bore responsibility because they consented to it and did not prevent it.
So their Lord, in His perfect justice and might, brought down upon them a devastating punishment that overwhelmed them completely. He sealed their fate with a mighty blast that destroyed them all—young and old, strong and weak—without exception. He made the punishment equal for all of them, for they were all complicit in their rejection and transgression. Not a single soul escaped His retribution.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This verse carries a profound lesson for every generation. It reminds us that Allah’s justice is absolute and His power is beyond measure. When a people persistently reject the truth and violate His commands, no force on earth can protect them from His wrath. Yet, at the same time, Allah is Most Merciful and Most Forgiving—He gives countless opportunities for repentance before His punishment descends.
Dear reader, let this story move your heart. The same Allah who destroyed Thamūd for their arrogance is the One who opens the doors of mercy for those who turn back to Him. Do not let pride or stubbornness keep you from the truth. Embrace faith with humility, obey your Lord, and you will find peace in this life and salvation in the next. The Qur’an is not merely a book of stories—it is a living guide, calling you to success and warning you of the consequences of heedlessness. Respond to that call today, before it is too late.
