Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- لَا جَرَمَ (Lā Jarama): Truly, certainly, undoubtedly — an emphatic expression confirming the truth of what follows.
- الْأَخْسَرُونَ (Al-Akhsarūn): The greatest losers, those who suffer the most severe loss and utter ruin.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse delivers a decisive and emphatic verdict about those who reject the truth and persist in misguidance. The phrase "lā jarama" carries the weight of absolute certainty — there is no doubt, no ambiguity, and no room for hope of escape. It is as if Allah Himself is sealing the matter with His infinite knowledge and justice.
The verse declares that these people are the greatest losers in the Hereafter. And what a loss it is! Think of a merchant who had the opportunity to trade something worthless for something priceless, but instead chose to throw away the priceless treasure for mere dust. That is precisely what they did — they exchanged eternal bliss for fleeting pleasures, the gardens of Paradise for the scorching fire of Hell, and the mercy of their Lord for His wrath.
They had everything to gain — faith, guidance, salvation, and eternal happiness. Yet they turned away and chose disbelief, sin, and rebellion. In the Hereafter, when the scales of justice are set and every deed is weighed, they will stand empty-handed, having lost not only their souls but also any hope of redemption. Their loss is not partial or temporary — it is total, absolute, and everlasting.
This is the ultimate tragedy: to be given the chance of a lifetime — indeed, the chance of eternity — and to squander it completely. They will look back and realize that every moment of their worldly life was a wasted opportunity, every breath a missed chance to return to their Creator.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse is not merely a historical statement about past nations — it is a living reminder for every soul until the end of time. It asks you a profound question: What is your trade? What are you exchanging your precious life for? Are you investing in what lasts forever, or are you spending on what will vanish in a blink?
The door of repentance is open, and the mercy of Allah is vast. Do not let yourself be counted among the greatest losers. Be among the winners — those who trade their sins for forgiveness, their heedlessness for remembrance, and their distance from Allah for closeness to Him. The market is open now, but it will close with your last breath. Seize this moment, for tomorrow may be too late.
