Explanation of the Verse:
This verse carries a profound lesson of patience, divine timing, and the certainty of Allah's help — even when all hope seems lost.
Allah addresses His Messenger ﷺ and all believers with a comforting truth: do not be hasty in seeking victory over those who reject the truth. The messengers who came before you were not given immediate victory either — for Allah's wisdom knows the perfect time for every matter. Their trials were prolonged, their patience was tested, and their enemies grew bolder.
Then comes the critical moment described in the verse: "Until when the messengers despaired" — meaning they reached the absolute limit of human endurance, seeing no sign of relief on the horizon — "and were certain that they had been denied" — meaning the nations were convinced that the messengers' warnings of punishment would never come true, and even the messengers themselves, in their human weakness, began to feel that all was lost.
It is precisely at that darkest hour — when the night of trial is at its deepest — that "Our victory came to them." The help of Allah descends like the break of dawn after the longest night. The believers are saved, and the promise of Allah is fulfilled in the most magnificent way.
"So We saved whom We willed" — the messengers and their true followers, those who remained steadfast through the storm. "And Our punishment cannot be warded off from the criminal people" — when Allah's wrath descends upon the wrongdoers, nothing can repel it. No power, no army, no wealth can stand against it.
This verse is a source of immense comfort for every believer facing hardship. It teaches us that:
- Victory comes after patience, not before it.
- The darkest moments often precede the greatest breakthroughs.
- Allah's timing is perfect, even when our hearts grow weary.
- Never lose hope in Allah's help, for it is closer than you think — even when all doors seem closed.
The Prophet ﷺ himself drew strength from this verse during the most difficult days in Ta'if, when he was rejected and wounded. He knew that the help of Allah was on its way, just as it had come to every messenger before him.
So, dear believer, if you are going through trials today — in your faith, your livelihood, your family, or your society — hold firm. Your dawn is approaching. The victory of Allah is real, and it comes to those who remain patient and steadfast, never wavering in their trust in their Lord.
