Tafsir (Explanation):
When Prophet Yusuf (Joseph) saw his dream—in which the sun, the moon, and eleven stars prostrated to him—he went to his father, Prophet Ya'qub (Jacob), and told him about it. Ya'qub, who was blessed with deep wisdom and understanding of dream interpretations, immediately recognized the great significance of this vision. He understood that Allah had chosen Yusuf for a noble mission and that he would be granted high status and honor above his brothers.
Out of profound paternal love and prophetic insight, Ya'qub advised his young son: "O my dear son, do not relate your dream to your brothers." He feared that if Yusuf's brothers—who were already older and perhaps harbored feelings of jealousy toward their younger brother—learned of this dream, they would understand its meaning and become consumed with envy. Their envy could drive them to plot against him, to scheme for his destruction, or to harm him in ways that would separate him from his family.
Ya'qub then gave his son a timeless spiritual lesson: "Indeed, Satan is to man a clear enemy." This was not merely a warning about the brothers' potential reaction, but a profound reminder that Satan works through human emotions like jealousy, hatred, and resentment. Satan exploits these weaknesses to lead people astray and to cause division and harm among them. He is an enemy whose hostility toward mankind has been declared since the beginning of creation, and he spares no effort in inciting evil among people.
This verse teaches us several beautiful lessons. First, it shows the importance of wisdom in handling blessings—sometimes concealing one's favors or achievements is a form of protection, not weakness. Second, it highlights the reality of envy and how it can corrupt hearts, even among close family members. Third, it reminds us to always be vigilant against Satan's whispers, recognizing that he is a clear and persistent enemy who seeks to destroy the bonds of love and brotherhood.
The fatherly advice of Ya'qub is a model of compassionate guidance—he did not scold Yusuf for sharing his dream, nor did he dismiss it. Instead, he gently protected his son while teaching him a profound spiritual truth that would serve him throughout his life's journey. This is the beauty of prophetic parenting: combining love with wisdom, and protection with education.
Beloved reader, this story reminds us that Allah's plans for His righteous servants are always beautiful, even when the path seems difficult. Yusuf's concealment of his dream was not a rejection of the vision—it was a step toward its eventual fulfillment. Trust in Allah, guard your blessings with wisdom, and always be aware of Satan's schemes, for Allah is with the patient and the righteous.
