Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- أَغْلَالٌ (Aghlāl): Iron chains or collars that are locked around the neck, used here as a symbol of punishment and restraint.
- خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ (Khalqin Jadīd): A new creation, meaning being brought back to life after death and decay.
Tafsir (Explanation):
If you are amazed, O Messenger, at the stubbornness of those who reject the truth despite all the clear signs of Allah’s power, then the most astonishing thing of all is their very words: "When we have become dust, will we really be brought into a new creation?" They deny the resurrection, arguing that returning to life after turning into dust and decayed bones is impossible. Yet they fail to reflect that the One who created them from nothing in the first place is perfectly able to recreate them—indeed, bringing something back to life is easier than creating it for the first time.
These are the people who have truly disbelieved in their Lord, rejecting His absolute power over life and death. For them, on the Day of Judgment, iron chains will be placed around their necks as a mark of their humiliation and punishment. They are the companions of the Fire, dwelling therein forever—never to leave, never to find relief, and never to taste death again. Their torment is eternal, and their suffering is unending.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every soul: the resurrection is not a matter of doubt or debate, for the Creator who originated the heavens and the earth, who brought every living being from nothing, is certainly capable of bringing the dead back to life. How strange it is that a person can accept the miracle of their own existence—their birth, their growth, their very life—and yet deny the miracle of being raised again!
Dear reader, let this be a moment of reflection. Your Lord, who fashioned you in the womb and gave you sight and hearing, has promised you a return to Him. Do not let the whispers of doubt steal your certainty. The resurrection is not merely a promise—it is a certainty, a day when every soul will stand before its Maker, and every deed will be weighed. Embrace faith in the unseen, for the One who created you the first time has pledged to bring you back, and His promise is true. Let this truth fill your heart with hope and your life with purpose, for the Hereafter is the ultimate reality, and its bliss is for those who believe and do good.
