Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Sawwaytuhu (سَوَّيْتُهُ): I perfected and completed his form, making it balanced and well-proportioned.
  • Nafakhtu fīhi min rūḥī (نَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِي): I breathed into him from My spirit — meaning the soul that Allah created and honored by attributing it to Himself, as a sign of His majesty and ownership.
  • Faqaʿū (فَقَعُوا): Fall down, i.e., prostrate yourselves.
  • Sājidīn (سَاجِدِينَ): Those who prostrate — here, a prostration of honor and respect, not of worship.

Tafsir (Explanation):

When Allah completed the creation of Adam — peace be upon him — shaping him into a perfect, balanced human form, He then breathed into him the soul, and Adam became a living being. At that moment, Allah commanded the angels to prostrate to Adam as an act of honor, respect, and obedience to His command — not as an act of worship, for worship belongs to Allah alone.

This prostration was a profound demonstration of the high status Allah granted to Adam and, by extension, to the entire human race. It was a divine declaration that humanity — created with honor, intellect, and free will — holds a distinguished position among all of Allah's creation. The angels, pure and obedient, immediately complied, falling down in prostration, submitting to the will of their Lord.

Reflect on this beautiful moment: Allah did not merely create Adam and leave him, but He personally perfected his form and breathed into him from His spirit. This shows the immense love and care Allah has for humanity. You, as a human being, carry this noble legacy — you are the descendant of a being whom the angels were commanded to honor. Never underestimate your worth, and never lower yourself to disobedience, for you were created noble and honored by the Lord of the Worlds.

This verse also teaches us the virtue of humility — even the angels, despite their greatness, prostrated to Adam in obedience to Allah. How much more should we, as human beings, humble ourselves before our Creator in prayer and submission? And how much more should we respect and honor our fellow human beings, as Allah honored them?

Let this verse inspire you to live with dignity, gratitude, and obedience to Allah, who honored you above many of His creations. And remember: the prostration of the angels was a one-time event, but your prostration to Allah in prayer is a lifelong privilege and a source of immense reward.

📜 Verse 27-31 — Al-Hijr

And the jinn We created before from scorching fire.
And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud.
And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration."
So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely,
Except Iblees, he refused to be with those who prostrated.
